Portrait Of Loving African American Couple In Countryside

May is national ‘Date your Mate’ month.  Life can be complicated and busy but it is so important to set time aside for you and your spouse or significant other.  Here are some great ideas for how to date your mate in Philadelphia.

Make it a “Day Date”

Sometimes we get so busy we can’t possibly set aside time on evenings and weekends so why not meet your love during a weekday.

Have a Picnic

Philly has so many great places to visit with a packed or picked-up lunch.  You’ll be sure to find a spot to relax and spend a little mid-day lunch date with your honey.  People watch with a brown-bagged lunch at Dilworth Park, or hit the food trucks at Spruce Street Harbor Park.

Why not kill two birds with one stone?  Spend time with your mate and get in shape! The Schuylkill River Trail has 60 miles of multi-use trail but even if you’re not up for a crazy long jaunt you can start just about anywhere on the trail for a mile or two of heart-pumping exercise.  Another great and exciting walk/run is over the Ben Franklin Bridge.  To head over to Camden and back is about 3 miles and you can take in the beautiful and romantic views of the center city skyline.  You can enter the bridges walking/biking trail at 5th and Race streets.

Go out on a weeknight

If you don’t work a traditional 9-5 job than you already know the convenience of doing things when the rest of the world seems to be at work.  Grocery store lines are short and there is always somewhere to park.  This makes going out on a weeknight super fun and usually much less expensive than heading out on the weekend.

Head to your local watering hole

Bars will often try to bring customers in during the week with live music, karaoke, and quizzo.  These are fun activities and even give you chances to win prizes.  Find out where to karaoke here and where to do quizzo here!

A little friendly competition can be good for a relationship!  Take your partner to Dave and Busters for 1/2 price games on Wednesday nights or to Barcade in fishtown  for drinks and some old-school arcade games.  You’ll be sure to love revisiting your youth!

Have a DIY date

Sometimes there is nothing better than an old fashioned home cooked meal.  Or at least coming home to dinner on the table, a few lit candles, and a romantic pandora station playing in the background! If cooking is not your forte you could alway order take-out but at least put it on real plates.  If you are feeling adventurous try using services like Plated or Blue apron, they deliver all the ingredients and instructions you need to make an amazing home cooked meal for you and your love right to your door step.

Do crafts for the house together

If you share a home with your significant other how about setting aside some time to do crafts that will spruce up your living space? So go ahead and refinish those dressers you’ve been meaning to do for years or try this cool gardening craft.

Not everyone can afford a big vacation but that doesn’t mean we don’t need one.  We are so lucky in this part of the world that we have so many options for amazing day trips.   Philadelphia is smack in the middle of both beaches and mountains so pack a bag and get going on a mini-vacation date!

Go down the shore

Lot’s of Philadelphian’s either have a house ‘down the shore’ or know someone who does but either way it is totally possible to do a day trip to the beach anytime you want.  In the time it takes to watch the latest episode of Game of Thrones you can get to Atlantic City, if you’re looking for some gambling fun with your honey or Margate, or Ocean City if you want more family-friendly fun.  If you and your love have a 4 legged friend there is an amazing dog beach right before you cross over the bridge to Ocean City.  There’s nothing like watching fido chase tennis balls into the ocean with tons of other happy pups!

Head to the Poconos

Looking to trade sand for trees?  How about a trip to the Poconos!  This destination is great for winter activities but spring and summer is just as great!  How does zip-lining, golfing, or a hike by the Bushkill Falls sound?  If that sounds great than a day trip or a one-night-stay in the Pocono Mountains might be just what the doctor ordered for you and your special someone!
