RAUSCH

The Legendary Dobbs, established in 1974, located at 304 South Street plays host to five Progressive Rock juggernauts tonight. Filing the prime time spot @ 10pm is RAUSCH. Founder & Frontman Doug Rausch spoke with PhillyHappening.com about RAUSCH.

PH: How would you describe your music?

DR: That which will SAVE MUSIC HISTORY. I also accept “Queen on steroids.”

PH: What mainstream band would you say you sound most alike or has been your greatest influence?

DR: Two very different questions here. The former of which I feel most reluctant to oblige, but alas, I give you Porcupine Tree and Muse. And I truly must submit to you, we’ve gotten miraculously close to finally being able to award Dream Theater the “mainstream” moniker. Maybe there’s hope after all! As for the latter: Did I mention Queen?

PH: How long has the band been together? How did the band form?

DR: That all depends on which measuring stick we wish to utilize; I have been together with myself for at least a good 9 years now. Actually, fun fact of the day, our bassist Joe finds himself with equal roots; however, he [foolishly] went on sabbatical just long enough so that I could accept the offer from progressive rock juggernaut Shadow Gallery to assist in my crafting of the almighty ALBUM to SAVE MUSIC HISTORY. How kind of them indeed, as now we have a true Magnum Opus on our hands, if I do say so myself (and I do)! Upon its release, Joe returned to his senses and came back to where he belongs, joining Shadow Gallery’s honorary 6th touring utility member Eric, who now steps into full-time RAUSCH lead-guitar shoes. And on the drums, have we got a treat for you. All the way fromChile, ex-Shadow Circus member Gino Pinto completes our now-happy family, which has been in place for approximately one year.

PH: Where can we hear your music? (itunes, online radio, cd’s, website, etc)

DR: iTunes and Amazon.com are the primary legitimate conduits for the self-titled Album of RAUSCH. Do the noble deed, sacrifice your hard-earned $9.99 via either one of those outlets, and the RAUSCH family stays happy.

PH: What’s next for the band?

DR: I suppose “SAVING MUSIC HISTORY” was already used for #1. Hmm… well, perhaps I should try the straight-forward approach. We are working towards playing live as much as humanly possible, and/or as much as makes sense. As I’ve said in numerous interviews, 4 years hibernating in a studio can really take a toll on the bipolar-ness within… now it’s time to PLAY! That said: before you know it, it will be time to break ground on ALBUM #2. And this time, I am at the top of the list of those who pray it’s not another 1,769,017 years until the non-sophomore slump of RAUSCH sees light of day.

Can’t make the Dobbs performance? Fear not! Come see RAUSCH Not-Letting-It-Die on a stage near you: Saturday December 17th headlining the Tin Angel.
