Spring Community Happenings

Everything is waking up to Spring and this is the perfect chance to see what’s new in the community. This is the time of year for flea markets, fun runs, car shows, and more! Check out our round up of community happenings this spring and get outside!

On your mark, get set, run! It’s the time of the year to get outside, start moving, and help a cause. There are plenty of races in the area to match your level of experience, so if you’re a great athlete or just starting out, there is a race for you.

Public parks in the community are great for planning events, family outings, or just relaxing in the fresh air. Each park is unique and has plenty to offer. Take a look at this website for ideas on the park amenities in your area. For hiking enthusiasts and trail explorers, public parks offer plenty of ares to wander safely. Delaware Canal

Take a stroll down the Delaware Canal, where you can discover wildlife, history, and beautiful landmarks. The 58 mile trail runs from Easton to Bristol, so there is plenty to explore!

It’s almost Memorial Day, which means it’s time to get ready for pool season! Did you know that Philadelphia has 70 pools that open in late June? Every year, Swim Philly also organizes popup pools that host classes, events, and feature extended hours. Check out the site for pool attire and safety rules, as well as availability. If you’re itching to get your toes wet sooner, check out some of the local community pools in the area!

Lower Makefield Township Community Pool

The resort style Pool Complex includes four separate swimming pools, two water slides, lap lanes, and a high dive. A variety of memberships are available, and there are events planned throughout the season. Find details about membership here.

Fanny Chapman Memorial Pool

Registration is now open for membership at Fanny Chapman Pool! From May 27^th to September 4^th, the pool is open for public swims, lessons, and competitive teams. For membership options, check out the website.

Hatboro Memorial Pool

Whether you’re interested in a day pass or a membership for the full season, there are options for you at the Hatboro Memorial Pool. You’ll find a baby pool, mushroom-type water feature, a kiddie rock slide, a deep end with large slide, two pavilions, charcoal grills, and more! For membership details, click here.

Newtown Athletic Club

Menlo Aquatics Center

Philadelphia Master Gardener Plant Sale

When: April 30 from 10am-2pm
Where: 100 N. Horticultural Drive, Philadelphia, PA

Browse the selection of seedlings, native plants, and house plants for sale at Fairmount Park Horticulture Center. You’ll find many vegetables varieties, herbs, native plants, and pollinators. All plants have been carefully cultivated by Penn State Master Gardeners. Philadelphia Master Gardeners will also host garden tours, gardening workshops, and demonstrations throughout the day. Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve

Come see and buy plants native to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and the Delaware Valley. Check out more than 700 native plant species growing in their natural habitats throughout the Preserve. To check out the nursery availability, check out the website.

Although many farmers’ markets are open all year round, springtime is when they really come to life. It’s the season we start seeing more fresh produce, flowers, eggs, and more. Farmers markets are great opportunities for you to chat with local farmers about what is grown locally and learn about nutrition benefits. A lot of food can be sourced locally and that’s something to be proud of. Check out our guide for Farmers’ Markets in the area and surrounding counties here.

Farmers Markets are great for picking up a variety of locally made goods. If you’re looking to pick up a batch of seasonal produce weekly, a CSA might be a better fit. Community Supported Agriculture works as a subscription, so you’re guaranteed the freshest local produce for a consistent low price. Check out the CSA farms in the surrounding area and help support the local agriculture.

Small, medium, and large shares are available from the Spring Creek Farm CSA. Fruits, vegetables, beef, and eggs are all available from the farm, with new additions coming this year. Charity Car Show Benefitting AKidAgain

When: May 7 from 9am-2pm
Where: Simeone Museum – 825-31 Norwitch Dr, Philadelphia, PA

The akidagain.org charity seeks to bring hope, happiness, and healing to children facing life-threatening illnesses and the car community wants to help. Car entries are $50 while spectator entries are $25. Entries include a visit to the Simeone Museum while displaying your car for the kids. 19th Annual American Heritage Credit Union Car Show

When: May 13 from 10am – 3pm
Where: American Heritage Credit Union – 2060 Red Lion Rd, Philadelphia, PA

See hundreds of classic, muscle and modern show cars, visit over 40 craft show vendors, and enjoy a bite to eat from a variety of food vendors. Electric Car Show and Earth Day Festival

When: April 29 from 10am – 2pm
Where: 80 West Bridge Street, New Hope, PA

The New Hope Solebury High School Environmental Club is hosting the first annual Earth Day Festival and EV Car Show! The event is free for spectators and $20 for show entries.

The festival will include food trucks, local environmentally friendly vendors, tables run by student clubs, and prizes for EV cars in various show categories. 26th Annual Ambler Auto Show

When: May 21 from 1-6pm
Where: Butler Ave, Ambler, PA

Owners of antique, classic and unique autos, trucks and motorcycles travel to Ambler to participate and display their vehicles along Butler Avenue through the center of the town. This event is rain or shine, and families are invited to stroll Butler Avenue, stop at local restaurants and shops ,or grab a bite from local food trucks. For more info, visit the website.
