­­­­20th Anniversary of Equality Forum features panels, parties, programs, & more!

Maybe you’ve noticed the rainbow banners lining Broad Street in Center City, marking the return of Equality Forum for its 20th anniversary, May 3 – 6, 2012. For those unfamiliar, Equality Forum is a national and international LGBT civil rights organization with an educational focus.

This year’s featured nation is Israel, and a variety of influencers, educators, and entertainers from the country will be in the City of Brotherly Love for the occasion. A highlight of some of the events for the week is below:

Gay & Lesbian Art Exhibit
Tuesday, May 2 – Sunday, May 6
Gersham Y, 401 S. Broad Street

Equality Forum and the University of the Arts present the work of David Adika, renowned Israeli photographer. FREE

 

Drag Show & Party
Friday, May 4, 9 p.m.
Tabu, 200 S. 12th Street

Tabu hosts Tel Aviv Drag Performer Osher Sabag performing alongside your favorite Philadelphia drag queens. Free Smirnoff cocktail with admission and hosted by Wired 96.5. $5 until 9 p.m., $10 after 9 p.m.

 

National Same Sex Marriage Panel
Saturday, May 5, 2:30 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Doubletree, Maestro Room, 4th Fl., 237 S. Broad Street

The National Same Sex Marriage Panel examines the progress made on the issue of marriage equality and what challenges and opportunities lie ahead. The panel is moderated by Rebecca Isaacs, the Executive Director of the Equality Federation and leading advocate for LGBT equality. FREE

 

International Equality Dinner
Saturday, May 5, 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
National Museum of American Jewish History, 101 S. Independence Mall East

The International Equality Dinner at the National Museum of American Jewish History honors the Mayor of Houston, Annise Parker, with the 17th annual International Role Model Award. Ambassador of Israel to the United States Michael Oren is the keynote speaker, and MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts will emcee the evening. $200

 

SundayOUT! At The Piazza
Sunday, May 6, 12 p.m. – 7 p.m.
The Piazza, N 2nd. Street & Germantown Ave.

This popular event taking place at the Piazza in Northern Liberties features more than 150 artisans, food vendors, and community organizations. Live entertainment for this year includes Israeli pop star Shorty, singing sensation Neon Hitch, drag performer Osher Sabag, Israeli DJ’s, and a performance by Philly’s own Fuego Dance Company. $10 adults, $5 students
