Ben Franklin, Committee Member

November 29, 1775

PhillyHappened on this day when the second Continental Congress met and established a Committee of Secret Correspondence. Delegates on the committee; Benjamin Franklin, Robert Morris, John Dickinson, Benjamin Harrison and John Hay were tasked with providing a uniquely Patriotic interpretation of the situation in the colonies with the goal of obtaining European aid.

Although secret French aid was already assisting Americans; Silas Deane, instructed by the committee, was to meet with the French Foreign Minister to further secure aid in the the form of military support.
