block party

Block parties are one of the summer evens that all kids, and most adults, look forward to. Music, food, community spirit, and games are all part of what make Philly Block Parties the most happening. All the excitement and work that goes into a block party can be overwhelming, so be sure to remember these tips when you get your block on.

 1. Plan ahead– The City requires a permit for all block parties and road closures for your event. Submit your application early, along with the required fees. To make planning multiple events easy, the City does allow you to list multiple event dates, up to five per year, and submit one payment for each permit requested.

2. Clean-Up– Getting rid of all the trash post-block party can be a hassle. Stay organized by providing neighbors plenty of trash recepticles. Ask neighbors to each supply a can at the end of their driveway/stairs. Mark some containers for Recycling Only to minimize trash. Tie and secure all full trash bags until your regular trash pick-up day to avoid fines.

3. Communicate– Try setting up a Facebook Discussion Group so neighbors can communicate about party activities, sign up for food contributions, and discuss all the details that will make your block party the most happening event this summer!

4. Share– Don’t forget to submit your event to the Philly Happening calendar of events to let all your neighbors know the date and details of your party. Event submission is completely free and unlimited to residents, so send in your block party dates, charitable events, and more. Note: PhillyHappening.com requires you to register the first time you make a submission.
