With all time high temperatures this week exceeding heat indexes of over 100 degrees we thought we would share some of our favorite ways to stay cool during the hot summer months. We’re lucky to be so close to many great indoor and outdoor activities that it;s hard to pick just a few for our list but these ideas are sure to keep you and your family cool and happy.

1. Spend the day at a water park: We are lucky enough to be surrounded by outstanding water parks. If you have little one, spend the day at Sesame Place right in nearby Langhorne, Bucks County, or take the short drive to Hurricane Harbor or Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom.

2. Day trip it to the beach: Luck for us Philly is close to a variety of great beaches, such as Wildwood, LBI, Ocean City, NJ, Rehobeth and many more!

3. Stop for a frozen treat when you’re out and about. Home to great mobile food vendors such as Little Baby’s Ice Cream and RuPaul’s Drag U Ice Cream Cart and multiple Rita’s Italian Ice locations.

4. Cannonball! Enjoy one of many public swimming pools around Philadelphia or join a swim club for something more regulated. For a full list of locations click here.

5. Take advantage of being within walking distance to many of the country’s best museums. A variety of options based on the ages of your group, but a few of our faves are the Please Touch Museum, Franklin Institute, Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Mutter Museum.

How ever you decide to stay cool, remember to drink a lot of water and don’t over exert yourself outdoors. Check on elderly neighbors and family members regularly and keep an eye on your pets. As always it can be very dangerous to leave an animal outdoors too long or in a hot car.
