“Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been”  -Mark Twain

7320446_100This Friday, October 3, along with the first Friday of October each year, marks World Smile Day – a day where people share kindness and help bring smiles to the faces of everyone around them.

The day was founded in 1999 by a man named Harvey Ball, creator of the now famous yellow smiley face. He wanted his creation to have meaning, so he organized a day that recognizes the importance of a smile.

In honor of World Smile Day, the Corner Bakery Cafe located at 17th and JFK in Philadelphia will give the first 50 guests in line free smiley face mugs, along with free coffee refills for a year.  The mugs are bright yellow and feature the classic Harvey Ball smiley face image.

“Smiles are not hard to come by at Corner Bakery Cafe, but we love the idea of devoting one day to spreading joy and happiness,” said Jeff Warden, president and CEO of The Rose Group, a leading franchisee of Applebee’s Grill & Bar and Corner Bakery Cafe restaurants.  “We hope these mugs will be one of many smiles our guests receive that day.”
