The OvalAre you envious of your artist friends? This week on August 20 you can try your hand at becoming an artist like the friends you envy during Art Class at The Oval, Philadelphia’s “Park on the Parkway.” Participants will have a chance to create woven magic carpets out of paper, and make wearable art.

The class is presented by Fleisher Art Memorial’s mobile art studio (ColorWheels), Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, and the Fairmount Park Conservancy. It will run from noon until 2:00 p.m.

ColorWheels was launched in response to in-depth research and interviews with community members that revealed both the importance of and the desire for arts opportunities close to where participants live, work, and play in Philadelphia. They will be on-hand with the supplies and tools needed to teach participants at the event.

The Oval, located at Eakins Oval (2451 Benjamin Franklin Parkway), is a park with community programming, events, and activities. It’s designed to promote the Parkway as a neighborhood park for all Philadelphians. For more information about the Art Class and The Oval, click here.
