This Sunday, February 1, an estimated 184 million Americans are expected to watch Super Bowl XLIX, 23 million people plan to host Super Bowl parties, and 13 million people will head out to a local bar to watch the game. That’s a whole lot of football watching, especially if you’re not a big sports fan – like me.
While most people are focusing on the six primary numbers related to Super Bowl Sunday – overall consumer spending that day, commercial costs, ticket prices, points scored, data use at the stadium and how many people are actually at the event – I’m thinking about what six things I can do that day that don’t involve sports.

At 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, the National Museum of American Jewish History will host a lecture by Professor John Efron on how medicine came to occupy such an exalted place among Jews. The lecture will explore medicine’s role in the Jewish transition to modernity.
