On Saturday, Nov. 4, participants in Sunrise Yoga watched the city come to life in a glow of orange and pink light from the 57th floor of the One Liberty Observation Deck, 1650 Market Street.
Through movements of “Downward Dog,” “Warrior,” and “Goddess,” participants focused on rejuvenating their minds while enjoying the sweeping panoramic views.
Sunrise Yoga is an event in the “One Fit Philly” event series. The series aims to help Philadelphia become one of America’s healthiest cities by offering a brand new series of sky high fitness events throughout the year.
The class was led by Alexandra Gallo of Philly Power Yoga. Gallo encouraged participants to connect meditation with movement and build personal peace and empowerment to handle every day stress with perspective and strength.
Originally a ballet dancer, Gallo studied ballet year-round at The Rock School for Dance Education, Miami City Ballet School, and The School of Pennsylvania Ballet. In 2011, Gallo took up a daily vinyasa yoga practice while looking for cross-training. In 2016, after leaving a ballet career, she completed Dhyana Yoga’s Teacher Training Program, joining Yoga Alliance as a 200-RYT. Shortly after, Gallo began teaching at Shanti Yoga and Ayurveda as a vinyasa and beginner yoga instructor. She joined the Philly Power Yoga team in October.
