car snowIf you live or spend any amount of time in South Philly, chances are you’ve seen some bizarre parking scenarios.  From parking in the middle of Broad Street to endless amounts of double parking, Philadelphians have seen it all.  When it snows, however, things get a little crazy.

Imagine, if you will, waking up to a foot or more of snow.  A snow day!  The kids are off from school and you spend a precious minute dreaming of days parking savingpast when you could sleep in, build igloos, and throw snowballs… Until reality sets in.  You have to get to work.  No exceptions, the boss will be there, so will you.

Drink your coffee, bundle up, and prepare yourself for the 30 plus minutes you will spend digging your car out from under the white stuff.

Sweaty and exhausted you’re proud of your work, but immediately afraid of someone “stealing” your spot!  So out comes the lawn chair or the kitchen stool to mark the hard earned spot as your own.  Makes sense right? Wrong. This long beloved Philadelphia tradition is illegal! In fact the Philadelphia police have a clever way of spreading the word on twitter…

The police are working hard to prevent people from claiming a space but only time will tell if it works.  All we can say is parker beware and click here for some tips to make your digging out experience a little bit easier.
