The thousands of runners registered for the Philly 10K are likely breathing a sigh of relief as they read the forecast of warm and sunny weather for Sunday, August 30 – the day they’ll all take to the streets of Philadelphia for a 6.2 mile race.
Put on by Philadelphia Runner, a local running store based in Philadelphia, the Philly 10K is a road race starting at 8th and South streets and ending at 5th and Pine streets. It’s not a charity race, but a portion of registration proceeds are being donated to the Philadelphia Association of Community Development Corporations, which supports neighborhood community development corporations in Philadelphia. There are also charitable partners that raise anywhere from $500-$5,000 each through selling charity bibs.
For the safety and logistical concerns, everyone participating in the race must be able to maintain a 15 minute per mile pace.
Those participating in this year’s race can pick up their bibs at the Bibs & Beer Pick-Up Party at Headhouse Market at 2nd and Pine streets on Friday, August 28 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For anyone that wants to cheer on their friends and family who are running in the race you can do so at E. Passyunk Avenue between Reed and Dickinson streets, Chestnut Street between 12th and 13th streets, and North-West corner of Washington Square at Walnut and 7th streets.
