Years of hard work and a lot of fun along the way proved to Bucks County native, Ashley Hillis, you should always follow your dreams. Ashley shared with Bucks Happening what her journey has been like from a toddler to becoming an Eagles Cheerleader, and the important part her years with The Dance Academy in Holland, PA played.

How long have you lived in Bucks County?

I was born and raised in Upper Makefield, Bucks County.

When did you start dancing at The Dance Academy?

I started dancing when I was 2 years old at The Dance Academy and I had my first competitive solo at 4 years old.

What are some of your most memorable moments at The Dance Academy?

The Dance Academy enabled me to meet a wonderful group of friends who I call family. Most of the best memories I have with The Dance Academy were performing in all of the competitions, recitals and traveling to Myrtle Beach for Showstoppers Nationals each year! My senior year I was able to perform in the opening number alongside former dancing with the stars, Lacey Schwimmer. My team also won first place overall that year. It was always an amazing time traveling and being on vacation with my friends and family while also doing what I love to do.

When did you know you wanted to be an Eagles Cheerleader?

As a little girl, I dreamed of being a professional dancer because I always had a strong passion for dance. My sister, Nicole, became an Eagles Cheerleader in 2019 and she had an amazing experience. That inspired me to become a Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader.

How was the try out process for you?

The try out process was very intense and competitive. It was incredible to be surrounded by so many talented dancers. I felt blessed as I made it through each round and was thrilled to be selected to join the team!

Tips From a Seasoned Pro

Do you have any advice for young dancers in general?

I would tell young dancers to follow their dreams and no matter how many times they get rejected and hear the answer no, keep going and never give up. Set your mind straight, stay positive, and always thrive to be the best version of yourself!

Do you have any advice you can give to aspiring Eagles cheerleaders?

Always follow your dreams! Hard work, determination, and positivity pays off. There will be many challenges you face but the only way to get through it is to push through because it is so worth it in the end.

I am an Eagles Cheerleader!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself, your dance journey or your current job with our readers?

For 15 years, I danced at The Dance Academy and was offered many opportunities like dancing on Nickelodeon, performing in commercials and appearing in a movie. I also performed at The Academy of Music in Philadelphia and the Joyce Theater in New York City. I attended West Chester University where I joined the dance team and was elected captain for 2 years. We traveled to Orlando, Florida for UDA Nationals and it was always an amazing experience, especially winning 2nd place in the nation. After many years of training, I am so thrilled that all of my hard work paid off and I can say I am a Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleader.

Follow Your Dreams

Aston Kline from The Dance Academy (TDA) says, “I had the privilege of watching Ashley both as one of my littlest teammates when I was still dancing at TDA, then as a teacher when I graduated and came back to the studio…She was always so much fun to watch. Her passion and love of dance has always been evident through every performance. I’m so proud of her, and I’m so thankful to have had her in my life for so long”.
The Dance Academy begins their 36th season on September 12th and online registration is now open.
