10273365333_7402b2f731_bAccording to the Philadelphia Business Journal, Philly power pair Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook – the men behind CookNSolo Restaurants – are toying with the idea of expanding their Federal Donuts concept outside of Philadelphia.

“We have four stores here, so we feel like we have the city pretty well covered. We also feel like Philly is our hometown, and our concept’s been well supported by Philadelphia,” Cook told the Business Journal. “We want to figure out whether the concept works without the hometown advantage. We’re anxious to do that and see that next step in evaluation what the potential may be.”

Cook didn’t disclose to the reporter which locations he and Solomonov are looking into, but he said they would be “cities that are drivable [to] Philadelphia”.

There is no definitive number of stores planned at the moment. Instead, the two will focus on taking it slow.

“If we open a store in another city and it does well and it proves that this is a concept that works where we don’t have the reputation and track record, that opens up a whole [slew of] possibilities,” Cook told the Business Journal. “We’re not going to say we want to have 100 stores. We need to go slow. One store but that store could give us a lot of answers about the future.”

As to why the two will expand its Federal Donuts shop, which serves doughnuts, fried chicken and coffee, Cook said it’s because it’s a proven model and something familiar to customers.

There are five current Federal Donuts locations: South Philadelphia, Center City, West Philly, North Philly and Citizens Bank Park.
