Comedian, actor, producer and director Chris Rock is headed to Philly this week to promote his new film “Top Five” — which digs under the surface of show business, politics, rap, and the exigencies of being black and famous today.
Keep your eyes open because Rock may be seen around town before he makes his way to the Ritz Five theater in Old City to introduce the film to Philadelphia Film Society members.
The film – written, directed and starring Rock – tells a story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront the comedy career and the past that he’s left behind. In essence, Rock is plays version of himself. His co-stars – Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union, Cedric the Entertainer, JB Smoove, Tracy Morgan, Kevin Hart, Anders Holm, Jay Pharaoh, Michael Che, Sherri Shepherd, Leslie Jones – all give the film the celebrity backing it needs to be a success.
The film is produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush. Rock’s co-producers are Shawn “Jay Z” Carter and Kanye West and Philly’s own Questlove of the Roots is the executive producer.
