The Associated Press says that researchers at Washington State University are working on the test now. The idea is that police will have a test, similar to the one they use to test for alcohol, to determine marijuana impairment. Right now the only way to do that is to use a blood test.
Existing technologies, like those used by airport security agents to detect drugs and explosives can be altered to test breath for marijuana impairment, says Herbert Hill, Chemistry Professor at Washington State.
The researchers hope to start testing on humans early next year.
