Do you remember where you were on October 26th, 2015? If you were anywhere local to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, you were busy making history. In an unprecedented collaboration that has stood the test of time for over 5 years, Steve’s Prince of Steaks and Amoroso’s Bakery delivered a 48o foot long cheesesteak. This shattered the previous record of 426 feet set in 2011 in Tucson, Arizona. Well, in just a few days, that record will be challenged yet again, right here in Philadelphia.

On Monday, May 24th, Rene from Rim Cafe will be working with a team of over 35 vendors from throughout the city to create the world’s largest cheesesteak of over 500 feet for the annual event in the Italian Market, “The Godfather Birthday.” The cheesesteak will be made by vendors of all different cultures, including Greek, French, Italian, Cuban, Mexican, Canadian and Australian and it will beat the current Guinness Book record for the world’s longest cheesesteak. In addition, there will be over 1,000 cannoli from Rim Cafe and an Espresso Station, in addition to other foods.

Rim Cafe is located in Philadelphia’s Italian Market, which runs along twenty city blocks of 8th, 9th and 10th Streets in South Philadelphia and is one of the oldest and largest open-air markets in America. You’ll find nearly 200 vendors lining the street, selling fish, meats, spices and products, while the gourmet shops and restaurants are in the main storefronts in between. The Italian Market has a strong Italian heritage, but there is an abundance of international flavors in the area as well. You’ll also find Vietnamese, Korean barbecue and other cuisines from Asian countries like Thailand, China and Laos.

For the event on Monday evening, two blocks will be closed on 9th Street for live entertainment. Here are some of the singers, celebrities and athletic stars that will be at the event:

  • Tony Luke
  • Big Time Tommie
  • Vincent Prestigiacomo
  • Recording Artist, Lovari
  • Ronnie Doino
  • Sal Valentinetti from “The Voice”
  • Greg Basile
  • Bruce “Busta” Soscia
  • Martin Chaddock

There will be many more in addition to those listed above and you can find the complete list on Rim Cafe’s Facebook Page. The event is free and runs from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. Find more information here.
