The Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities (also known as MOTU) works hard to make sure that Philly residents can get where they are going, no matter how they choose to get there be it by foot, bike, car or transit. Each week, as part of these efforts, MOTU posts a map or graphic that tells a story about transportation or utilities in the City of Brotherly Love.

This week’s graphic comes from the American Community Survey — an ongoing survey that provides data every year, giving communities the current information they need to plan investments and services. It calculates the number of Philadelphia householders who own their own vehicle by whether they own or rent their homes.

According to the data, approximately 20% of home owners do not have access to a vehicle and 48% of home renters do not have access to a vehicle.
