Tina FeyIf you’ve read her best-selling book, Bossypants, or watched her show “30 Rock” you probably know that Tina Fey, made famous by her writing and performing on Saturday Night Live, is a Philly Girl.  Born and raised in Upper Darby she got bit by the entertainment bug back when she was a kid attending the Upper Darby Summer Stage through the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

While promoting her new film, “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” last week Fey announced that her family has set up a scholarship fund in honor of her late father, Donald H. Fey, who passed away in October.  The fund will provide scholarships to military veterans looking to pursue a career in journalism at Donald Fey’s alma mater, Temple University.

A veteran himself having served in the Korean War, Donald Fey went on to study journalism at Temple and went on to write for Business Week.  Tina has dedicated the film, which tells the story of a journalist reporting in Afghanistan, to her late father.

Donations to the fund can be made here. Tina mentioned that Jimmy Fallon made one of the first donations to this great cause.  Between supporting Temple and the great “Philly” nod she made to Fallon’s house band and Philly natives, The Roots, it’s safe to say that Tina Fey has not forgotten her own Philly roots!
