Now-Open-800x398Working from home and/or starting your own business always seem like a good idea – you get to make your own hours, you can roll out of bed without having to get dressed in work attire every morning, make meals in your own kitchen, take an afternoon jog during one of your breaks, and most importantly you get to be your own boss. But what happens when the novelty starts to wear off?

I’ll tell you what happens. You start craving social interaction. You get tired of your significant other taking your working from home as an invitation to give you more house work. You’ve somehow started not only working from home, but also watching the kids during the day. The sweatpants you’ve been sporting start getting holes in them from overuse.

It’s for these reasons and many others that co-working space has become so popular and why there’s such a buzz about The Hive – Philly’s newest and first co-working space dedicated to ambitious women.

The Hive – a 900-square-foot space in Old City that was created by Melissa Alam, founder of the online magazine Femme & Fortune – opened this month and provides women of all ages and backgrounds a space to work and a community full of like-minded women. Its goal is to inspire collaboration, personal and professional development, mentorship, and empowerment in Philly. In addition, the space serves as a venue for monthly networking events and workshops held by members and local professionals.

If you’re interested in checking out the new space or becoming a member, visit www.thehivephilly.com. All memberships are on a month-to-month basis.
