The Bean Café has been serving coffee, sandwiches and homemade pastries in the SSHD for 17 years. Considered to be the “hipster” coffee shop on the street, they offer free wi-fi, outdoor seating, serve La Colombe coffee and stay open late! (10pm on weekdays, 12am on weekends) Be sure to try their homemade breads. You won’t be disappointed!

Cups & Chairs is fairly new to the SSHD. Not only do they offer coffee & smoothies, but their tea selection is outstanding. All their tea comes from another neighborhood business – The House of Tea (720 S. 4th Street) and they even create some of their own signature blends. A healthy lunch choice is made easy in this spot. Try their sliced cucumber and mayo on multigrain bread, it won’t disappoint. Cups & Chairs features a rotating art display where everything is on consignment from local artists. If you love one of the pieces, you can buy it and take it home with you! With outdoor seating in their courtyard, free wi-fi and a huge lounge area, this businesses offers something for everyone.

Philadelphia Java Company, or Java to the locals, not only offers La Colombe coffee, they have a huge selection of vegan and vegetarian friendly pastries, sandwiches and snacks! This 15 year old business is dog friendly, offers outdoor seating, rotating artwork and free wi-fi. They even feature signature sandwiches named after their helpful and friendly staff, who created them!
