Attention SEPTA riders, new regional rail schedules go into effect today, Sunday, December 14, 2014.

To give you an idea of some of the changes we’re sharing some highlights:

Manayunk/Norristown
Weekday train schedules have been adjusted to accommodate the completion of track work at Conshohocken, Spring Mill and Miquon Stations.

Paoli/Thorndale
Weekday Express Train #1502, will now originate at Malvern Station instead of Paoli Station. The early morning train will depart from Malvern Station at 4:26 a.m.

Wilmington/Newark

  • Weekday outbound Train #273, which departs from Jefferson Station at 8:29 p.m., will now serve Wilmington Station.
  • Weekday inbound train #274 traveling inbound towards Center City will now originate from the Wilmington area instead of Marcus Hook. Train #274 will depart from Newark Station at 9:15 p.m.
  • New afternoon express service has been added. Train #7239 will depart from Jefferson Station at 3:05 p.m. and will serve Suburban Station, 30th Street, University City, Chester, Marcus Hook, Claymont, Wilmington, Churchmans Crossing and Newark Stations.
  • Weekday outbound train #7241 which departs from Temple University Station at 3:03 p.m. will operate local service through to Wilmington area stations.

The schedules aren’t the only things changing for SEPTA riders – evidence of the long-awaited smart card system, SEPTA Key, is also starting to appear in stations. The new fare payment and collection program will replace the current fare instruments such as tokens, paper tickets, and magnetic stripe passes. Riders are and will continue to see computerized kiosks, turnstiles and fare boxes popping up in stations all over the city and on vehicles.

When the program is implemented, riders will be able to use a SEPTA Key branded card that can be purchased at station kiosks, SEPTA Sales Offices, from local retailers and online. Tokens – for many, the symbol of SEPTA’s decades old fare system – will continue to be used during the initial SEPTA Key roll-out. SEPTA will give advanced public notice before tokens are phased out.
