Now that the wickedly hot days are behind us and the freezing temps are not yet our reality it’s time to get moving and enjoy all that the city has to offer! This weekend you can roam around the streets, pick your own fruit, and enjoy oysters with beer!
Philly Free Streets Day
Saturday September 24th 8am-1pm
Inspired by Pope Francis’s visit last September Philly is holding it’s first ever Free Streets Day, opening South street all the way from Front to the Schuykill River then up the Schuylkill River Trail to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and on to the streets of Parkside and West Fairmount Park to nothing but pedestrian traffic. That’s right, no cars, no busses, no motor vehicles of any kind.
Philly Free Streets is organized by the City of Philadelphia and led by the Managing Director’s Office of Transportation & Infrastructure Systems. Philadelphians are encouraged to enjoy the streets by foot, bike, roller skates and the like as well as to take advantage of all the free family-friendly fitness and educational programming the City has planned!
Apple Fest at Shady Brook Farm
Saturday and Sunday 11am-4pm – Shady Brook Farm
Fall is the season for apples and nothing is better than enjoying the fruit of your own labor!
Take a wagon ride to the apple orchard to pick-your-own apples. Enjoy inflatable attractions, gem mining, giant jumping pillows, rope spider web, all new playground, and more festival fun! Admission is $15/person, apples are $1.29/lb. For more information visit the website.
OysterFest
Friday September 23rd 7pm-9pm – Reading Terminal Market
Reading Terminal Market partners with Molly Malloy’s and Pearl’s Oyster Bar this weekend to bring you this year’s OysterFest! Sample a dozen different varieties of raw oysters (including Cape Shore Salt oysters, Cape May Salt oysters, Sweet Amalia oysters, and Forty North oysters) alongside a dozen local craft beers from local breweries such as Evil Genius, Philadelphia Brewing Co., and Yards.
