Now in its 20th season, Dancing with the Stars may not be as alluring to viewers as it originally was. But for Philadelphian’s, like myself, this season brings with it more excitement and interest than previous ones because home girl and Grammy winner, Patti LaBelle, will be competing.
LaBelle, a Philadelphia who had declined several previous invitations to be on the show, and partner, pro dancer Artem Chigvintsev, will debut their moves during the show’s season premiere on Monday, March 18 at 8:00 p.m.
When asked why she finally decided to participate, LaBelle said that “being 70 years young, I said, ‘You know, at 70, you have to do everything! Don’t let anything scare you. Don’t be afraid of failure, don’t be afraid of anything! Just go out there and do it!’ because I’ve been asked so many times, I said, ‘I’m going to finally say yes!
LaBelle and her partner will begin the competition with the Foxtrot, appropriately performed to “Lady Marmalade,” the number R&B/pop smash hit by her former group.
This season’s competitors include:
Noah Galloway, a disabled veteran and motivational speaker
Robert Herjavec, from Shark Tank
Riker Lynch, actor, musician and songwriter for Glee
Stefan Kendal Gordy (known as Redfoo), an entertainer for LMFAO
Willow Shields, actress appearing on The Hunger Games
Suzanne Somers, former actress, entertainer and entrepreneur
Chris Soules, from season 19 of The Bachelor
Rumer Willis, actress and recording artist
