womens-history-month-webToday marks International Women’s Day, the day ordained by the United Nations to observe the triumphs of and challenges faced by women around the world.

International Women’s Day began during the industrial revolution – a time of great chaos, population growth, and the forefront of the women’s rights movement. In 1908, 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter work hours, better pay and the right to vote. A little over 100 years later, International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world.

There are a number of things happening in and around Philly today to celebrate women, but for those who are missing those events there’s still something to look forward to this week. Peirce College – at 1420 Pine Street in Philadelphia – will be hosting a panel of noteworthy female executives on Thursday, March 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on their campus.

The executives participating in the event include:

Jeanie Heffernan, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Independence Blue Cross

Tammy Pollard, Director of HR Learning and Organizational Development at AmeriHealth Caritas

Amber Racine, Attorney at Raynes McCarty

Jannet Walker, Deputy Program Director of Management Processes at Philadelphia International Airport

Markita Morris-Louis, Senior Vice President of Community Affairs and General Counsel at Clarifi

The notable female executives listed above will come together on March 12 to discuss the role of women in the workplace, how they achieved success and share tips and insight to help others looking to follow in their footsteps.
