There is great excitement about Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia in September. In fact, the city estimates that 1.5 million people will be coming to town for the once in a lifetime event and all hotels within a 100 mile radius are already fully booked.

As a result of this, many families that are in need of housing because specialized medical care they are receiving in the Greater Philadelphia area will have nowhere to stay.

To help ensure that all patients and their families have somewhere to stay, HOSTS for HOSPITALS — a unique non-profit agency that provides free or minimal cost lodging and support and volunteer-host homes to patients and their families who come to the area for specialized medical care — is running a five-month campaign to have at least 50 more homes available during the time of the Pope’s visit.

To help, you can either become a host or help to spread word of the need.

Hosts are ordinary people from all walks of life that have an extraordinary willingness to share their home with people in need. To be accepted into the program, HOSTS for HOSPITALS has to screen each host and conduct an on-sight inspection of the host’s home. Hosts are also trained to be sensitive to guests’ feelings of stress and concern for their loved ones.
