On Friday, May 11, local entrepreneur Bob Logue will launch The New Market at The Shambles (2nd and Lombard Streets), a showcase of American-made food, goods and services in historic Headhouse Square. Featuring local and domestic craftsmen, tradesmen and artisans, the market will be held from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. most Fridays in May and June and then every Friday from July through October. Guests will be able to stroll the market and surrounding neighborhood, tucked into a cobblestoned corner of Philadelphia’s historic Society Hill, enjoying a cocktail or a snack, interacting with the market’s ever-growing roster of top producers and purveyors, purchasing local products and enjoying live classical music beginning at 7:30 p.m.

In the late 18th century, Headhouse Square and its Shambles became home to a market for the people. Philadelphia entrepreneurs and manufacturers were able to sell their wares directly to the public, from person to person without the complications of corporations. Quality, industry and pride drove these craftsmen to create a bustling economy based entirely on local merchandise. Now this Philadelphia tradition returns! The New Market is currently seeking vendors who would be interested in participating and selling their quality, domestically made wares. Love Your Local.

The New Market is backed by the City of Philadelphia Office of the Mayor, the Department of Commerce and The South Street Headhouse District, making it an appealing way for gifted locals to share their goods and services with the public and a showpiece for the neighborhood that will drive foot traffic to local businesses and restaurants.
