We’ve all been there, reeling from a recent break-up, doing our best not to make eye contact with the dark haired hunk in the cafeteria, but then Mr. Personality appraoches and wants to chat…damn, and he seems nice too….That’s why love is so often found when we least expect it…

It was a very similar scene the day that Jasmine and Mike met, in a cafeteria at a program for the mind, body and spirit. On this particular day Jasmine had arrived late, not at all upset that many students had already eaten and left. See, Jasmine had recently ended a relationship with someone and was not yet in the mood to meet new men or be hit on by strangers. Unfortunately, Michael spotted Jasmine from across the cafeteria and he knew he had to meet the spicy redhead right then and there. So, confident, handsome Michael strolled right up to Jasmine and said, “Hi, I’m Michael”. Although Jasmine immediately began thinking of ways to fend this random guy off, the conversation just seemed to come naturally. They discussed the usual topics, where are you from? What programs are you taking? You know, all the usual getting to know you questions.

Their first date was deep and memorable, comfortably swaying back and forth together on a hammock talking about personal memories, both joyous and painful, topics that not only really tell someone who you are, but where you are from and make you realize you want to know more.

Jas and Mike may have met in New York City, but Michael was from Philadelphia, and soon showed Jasmine around. Jasmine recalls one of their early dates on December 21st in celebration of her birthday. Jasmine had one condition, just one, and that was to make sure she wasn’t cold. This San Diego native had no tolerance for the fridged winter temperatures of the Philadelphia region and it was the one request she made for the evening. With that in mind Michael surprised her with a trip to nearby Longwood Gardens, a breathtaking sight around the holidays for sure. Jasmine recalls strolling the gardens with Michael and the evening being your typical cold, windy, wintry chill. After their stroll through the gardens they went outside to watch an ice skating show on chillingly cold metal benches. Of course, requesting that the date be anything but cold Jasmine was not exactly dressed for such low temperatures, yet despite her icy fingers, numb toes and frost bitten nose she didn’t complain, because Jasmine could tell that Michael was trying hard to impress her.

After the beautiful, but quite chilly ice skating show the new couple ventured indoors to the conservatory where Jasmine removed her socks and attempted to warm he frozen toes under a heater. Michael being a gentleman took her frozen feet in his hands and kept rubbing her feet until they warmed up nice and toasty. Before the night ended Jasmine through a coin into a fountain at Longwood Gardens, wishing Michael would be the man she one day married….

In 2010 Jasmine’s wish came true, as she and Michael celebrated their sacred union in a private and spiritual ceremony in an underground  water cavern in Mexico. Jasmine carefully planned the entire trip through an online coordinator who assisted them with planning everything from hair and make-up to a videographer, driver and Mayan Shaman to perform the ceremony.

Every bride has that moment that they fear their day may unravel, and like all other Bride’s, Jasmine had that moment when her hair and make-up woman was late, causing temporary panic and thoughts of being scammed out of her well thought out destination wedding. Luckily everyone arrived and the day proceeded as planned and was more beautiful than either Jasmine or Michael could have hoped.

“I remember feeling completely at peace on my way to the ceremony…..no stress at all….felt like my moment had finally arrived.  We had two ceremonies… one that was legally binding and the other with the Mayan Shaman where he performed all kind of traditional rites like we washed each other’s feet, cut a lock of hair from each other and put it in a plant, doused us with burnt sage,  sprinkled ground corn around us we repeated our vows in the Mayan language….and released butterflies upon exchanging our vows.  It felt very mysterious, magical, primitive, other worldly, very intimate, very private .. we were surrounded by lush plants and trees and the sun was shining so it felt like the garden of Eden” ~Jasmine

Following their majestic ceremony they enjoyed a couples massages and soaked in a jacuzzi surrounded with candle light and orchids, while watching a lemur steal muffins from the lounge of their resort. Later they were lead to a private table on the beach where they enjoyed an exquisite personal tasting menu and wine pairing while musicians serenaded them with romantic ballads table side. “Our wedding day was easily was one of the most romantic days of our lives,” shares Jasmine.
