We’ve hand picked a few local recoccuring events to help you and the kids get out, get moving, and stay sane this summer!

 

Stroller Strides

Stroller Strides® is a stroller-based fitness program designed for moms with little ones. Each 60-minute, total body workout incorporates power walking/running, strength, toning, songs and activities. Sister Cities Park and Stroller Strides is a perfect match, fitness for mom and fun for baby afterwards with playdates at the fountain/park, every Thursday at 9:30 am until September 25th. Pre-registration required at philadelphia.fit4mom.com. FREE

 

Story Art

Presented by Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and the Free Library of Philadelphia 
This weekly event, a nature-inspired story and craft at Sister Cities Park, takes place every Monday at 10:30 am until August 11th. Using the amenities of Sister Cities Park, children between the ages of 4 to 6 (older and younger siblings welcome) will deepen their connection to the environment.  FREE

Yoga On The Pier

All summer long you can rejuvenate and enjoy free yoga at Race Street Pier. The FREE classes are run every day except for Wednesdays at the Race Street Pier.

Monday: 7:00AM
Tuesday: 7:00AM

Thursday: 7:00AM and 6:00PM
Friday: 7:00AM
Saturday: 9:30AM
Sunday: 9:30AM

Classes will be suitable for all levels from beginners to the seasoned practitioner, and are taught by a collective group of yoga teachers called Yogis United along with a number of assistants. The classes are open to the public and donations are welcomed but nobody will be turned away. It’s a BYOM/B (bring your own mat and block) or possibly a large beach towel. Children and pets are welcome to join.

Summer Story Time

Join us for stories, songs, movement activities and an easy craft.  Program is for children ages 2 – 6 along with an adult; siblings are always welcome. At the Free Library of Philadelphia Lawncrest Branch, every Monday at 11 AM.

Teen Thursdays

Join us for activities including – Gaming, Crafts, Movies,and more! From 3:00 – 5:00 p.m at the Bustleton Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia. Come one time, or all the time!

This is a Summer Reading program and snacks will be provided by Friends of Bustleton Library.

 

Once Upon A Nation Storytelling Benches

Ten one-of-a-kind award-winning Once Upon A Nation Storytelling Benches are scattered all over Philadelphia’s Historic District, telling riveting stories of our nation’s history in the places where they actually happened. Specially-trained, uniformed storytellers delight and entertain with free, short 5-minute stories while sharing the secrets of Philadelphia’s and America’s history. Children can pick up a Story Flag at any storytelling bench, then collect a star from every storyteller on their journey. Flags with all the stars can be redeemed for a History Hero Certificate and a free carousel ride on the Parx Liberty Carousel.

  • August 22 – 30: 11 am – 4 pm, Friday and Saturday
  • August 31 & September 1: 11 am – 4 pm, Daily
