parkingIf you’ve visited our great city on more than one occasion chances are you’re familiar with the Philadelphia Parking Authority, also known as the PPA. Hopefully your experience was a good one. Many Philadelphia residents, however, wouldn’t say the same – at least not until they’re done paying off the debt they’re in because of the tickets they’ve racked up with the PPA.

But now that the holidays are here Philadelphian’s may be singing a different tune since Mayor Nutter, city tourism & hospitality officials and the PPA recently announced that meter parking in Philly – including Manayunk – is FREE every Saturday until December 29th, after 11:00 a.m. All other parking signage continues to be enforced.

For those who may not be able to find a free spot on the street, there is also discounted $8 parking every Saturday from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the following Parking Authority parking facilities:

AutoPark @ Olde City (2nd & Sansom)
AutoPark @ Independence Mall (5th & Market)
AutoPark @ 8th & Filbert
AutoPark @ the Gallery (10th & Filbert)
AutoPark @ Jefferson (10th & Ludlow)
AutoPark @ JFK Plaza (underground garage 16th & Ben Franklin Parkway)

Just remember that if you stay or enter after 5:00 p.m. the regular posted rates will apply.

Also, just so that the PPA doesn’t totally get a bad name, they are in existence to help make the most efficient use of our city’s parking resources. So as much as we may bitch and moan, they really were established to help ensure that we as residents in Philadelphia, along with businesses and visitors, have parking readily available.
