It’s that time of year again! The Blue Cross Broad Street run will take place on Sunday, May 7. Read on to discover five things about this annual Philadelphia race:

.) The Broad Street run is the largest 10-mile road race in the United States.

.) The race was founded in 1980 by Jason Katz, with 1454 men and 122 women finishing.

.) This year, you can expect approximately 37,000 runners.

.) In the first two years, runners ran straight through the courtyard of City Hall. Since then, the running route goes around the building. Until 1989, the race ended with a lap around the field at JFK Stadium in South Philly. After that stadium was demolished, the finish moved to FDR Park (on the other side of Broad Street), and then to the Navy Yard, where the race finishes today.

.) The Broad Street Run has been rated one of the fastest courses in the country by Runner’s World magazine.
