With a $20,000 cash prize at stake, this competition is no joke. If you are thinking about entering an eating competition or even brave enough to attempt the qualification rounds for Wing Bowl 2013, you can’t just wing this sort of thing.

Here are a few tips to successful competitive gluttony:

[box] 1. Work it Out
You must be in good overall physical condition. Check with your physician and make sure that you are able to compete alongside professional eaters, and none of the medications you may be taking could cause a potential problem.

2. Practice Makes Perfect
Don’t expect to jump in along side “El Wingador” and claim the title. Look for local eating contests and enter, working toward main events such as Wing Bowl. Practice at home, have a family member time you. *Just be cautious of choking and make sure you do not practice alone in the event you need medical assistance

3. Get Your Head In the Game
A competition of this sort is not just about physical preparation, but mental as well. The human body is programmed to signal our brains when we are full and tell us to stop eating. A human condition that will put you on the high road to Loserville. During your practice sessions you must work through the instinct to stop at the first sign of fullness.

4. Before You Eat, Eat
Don’t go into an eating competition with an empty stomach. Starving yourself before mass consumption won’t make your stomach free up extra space, it actually does the opposite. So don’t be counterproductive and eat small portions leading up to the big event In a side note-Avoid too much liquids prior to competing as well. too many beverages will fil the stomach, leaving you semi-full before you start.

5. Just Breath
Through your nose that is. If you don’t already do so, you have to learn to breath through your nose while eating. Breathing through your mouth will only slow you down when speed eating.[/box]
