Philly has done nothing less than leave their mark on the reality tv world this year. With three contestants joining this season of NBC’s The Voice and Brice Johnston joining the cast of Survivor: Cagayan (season 28). Unfortunately Brice was voted off the island in week two, but luck for us it has left him more available for interviewing, and we had the opportunity to ask Brice a few questions about his Survivor experience.

Here is a recap of our interview with Brice:

1. What inspired you to try out for Survivor? When did the process actually begin?

Since the first season of Survivor, I was hooked. I always told myself it’s not “if” I get on Survivor, it’s “when” I get on Survivor. A year and a half ago, I attended an open casting call in Atlantic City, NJ; I did horrible. So, last October, I sent in a video of myself and I got a call back from the casting department in January 2013.

2. Have you been a long time follower of the show?

I’ve been watching Survivor since the first season. However, I fell in love with the show in 2006, Survivor Panama, when my favorite castaway, Cirie Fields, was on the show.

3. Tell us a little about yourself and growing up in Philly.

Growing up in Philadelphia, I was the youngest of four boys. My mother, was a single mom, who worked her butt off to ensure that my brothers and I had everything we needed. I grew up in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. I attended C.W. Henry Elementary School and Abington Senior High School. I went on to graduate, from Temple University, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and a Minor in Public Health. I currently reside in the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia and I am a Social Worker for abused and negated children in Montgomery County, PA.

4. Have you traveled much in your life? How did you feel about going to Cagayan?

Growing up as a child we always went on family vacations to the mountains, and to the Jersey Shore. While in High School, I had the opportunity to travel abroad and lived in Mexico for two months. I stayed with a host family for a month, in Tlaxcala, and traveled the county of Mexico for a month. I was super excited about leaving the country for Survivor; however, I didn’t know we were going to the Cagayan region of the Philippines, it was a secret. All I knew was, when we arrived to the airport our flight was going to be 12 hours long.

5. What’s the most significant thing you learned about yourself during your time on Survivor?

I did not learn anything new about myself; however, being on Survivor confirmed what I already knew; I’m a strong, funny, loving, caring, outgoing, and dare I say, funny person that people tend to be drawn to.

6. Where you intimidated by any of your castaways going into Survivor; especially a former professional athlete like Cliff Robinson?

When I got the chance to really size up the castaways, I thought I was on the wrong TV show, I thought I was on a “Gladiator” movie. However, I was not scared because I knew what I was bringing to the table, which was something different and something that would help me in the game.

7. This season was broken into three tribes, Beauty, Brawn and Brains. Through your experience do you feel one trait proved to be more advantageous that another?

Of course, the “Beauty” trait to me was more helpful because in order to be a true beauty, like myself, it has to come from within. You have to possess an inner strength that is stronger than most people know. You also have to have street smarts because when you’re as sexy as I am, people often times will try to pull one over on you, so you have to be two steps ahead of the game.

8. Have you made or stayed in contact with any one since the show taped in the Summer of 2013?

I would say I’ve made some lifelong friends on Survivor and I’ve met some people that I wouldn’t give a dollar to if they were a bum on the streets, (Brice laughs).
