catholicsThis week the Archdiocese of Philadelphia proudly announced that Philadelphia will host the 8th World Meeting of Families in September 2015. This will be the first time this event has been hosted by the USA, and is said to be the largest event that Philadelphia has ever hosted period. In 2012 the World Meeting of Families was hosted by Milan and drew hundreds of thousands of people from around the world, with over one million attending the Holy Father’s Mass.

Both Governor Corbett and Mayor Nutter will co-host this historical event September 22 through September 27, 2015.

Since its inception by Blessed John Paul II in 1994, the World Meeting of Families has sought to strengthen the sacred bonds of family across the globe. Each World Meeting of Families has a theme, which aims to emphasize the good news of the family and highlight its intrinsic value to the good of society. The theme for the 2015 World Meeting of Families will be forthcoming following the election of a new Pontiff.  (Information provided by www.worldmeeting2015.org)
