On this day in 1918 philanthropist William Purves Gest along with the Fidelity Trust Company founded The Philadelphia Foundation. The Philadelphia Foundation is an organization dedicated to aiding the community by supporting and managing more than 800 community charities. Gest’s vision was to fund an administration for charitable trusts in Southeastern Pennsylvania. He recognized that the region attracted pioneers over three centuries and would continue to populate and prosper. now nine decades later the Philadelphia Foundation continues to support the great charitable organizations of our region, meeting the many modern day challenges the Delaware Valley faces each day.
