Honored Philadelphia chefs gathered for the 2011 March of Dimes 15th Annual Signature Chef’s Auction on November 17th at the Philadelphia Please Touch Museum. Accomplished chefs such as Rosario Romano, Georges Perrier, and Monica Glass of premier Philadelphia restaurants, cooked up gourmet dishes and treats for guests to benefit the March of Dimes and the families they help, like the Richardson’s. The Richardson family welcomed a beautiful baby boy named Trae 12 weeks prematurely, only weighing in at 3 pounds, 3 ounces. Baby Trae faced many challenges early on as many premature babies do, and was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age one. Although Trae is doing much better, he still faces a life more challenging that other children, and that is why his family shared their story at this year’s event to help build awareness in hopes that one day all children will be born healthy. The March of Dimes has made many contributions to area families facing the difficult journey of raising a sick child, but as any parent knows, the love you have for your child is stronger than any other bond, and you will do everything in your power to make their lives better, whether they are hours old or decades old.

The 2011 Signature Chef’s Auction successfully raised over $175,000.00 which will continue aiding their fight against prematurity. Naming November as Prematurity Awareness Month, the March of Dimes continues their research to aid the more than 17,000 Pennsylvania families that welcome premature babies into the world, as well as more than half a million other premature babies nation wide.
