At Philly Happening, pizza is always a hot topic. There are few foods that evoke as much debate and loyalty as one’s choice of preferred slice. It’s been a few years now since we originally stumbled upon Nomad Pizza, nestled on a beautiful green property on Broad Street in Hopewell. Then we revisited the artisan pizza mecca in our Tour de Food series. So when we heard that Nomad Pizza was going to be opening a second location in Philadelphia, we were excited that so many more people would get the opportunity to experience the magic.

It’s been a long road to dual-state citezenship for Nomad Pizza, a road that was traveled in a 1949 REO Speedwagon. Stalin Bedon and Tom Grim custom-created this classic ride for the express purpose of redefining the term “pizza to go.” Bucks County had the pleasure of experience the quirky fun pizza shop a-go-go at the Washington Crossing Brewfest in May 2011.

Fans love Nomad Pizza for one obvious reason, taste, but also for a whole host of others as well. For one, pizza lovers can feel good about being eco-friendly and locally minded by dining on artisan slices – Nomad sources vegetables and cheese from local and organic farmers whenever possible. Except, of course, for those that they grow themselves.

In the new Philadelphia location, located at 611 S. 7th Street, just off of South Street, Nomads has created a warm and inviting atmosphere while maintaining the environmentally friendly vision. Wood trim, made possible through the use of reclaimed wood from Princeton University, paired with classic movie posters creates a unique decor combo. There are plans in the works for classic movie nights – pizza and a favorite beverage paired with a movie, sounds like brilliance.

Have fun and make a night out of it. Be sure to the shitake and the tartufo (be sure to ask Stalin about the Bucks Happening tartufo story) and the blue cheese salad. Our advice would be to do that soon. Anyone who knows and loves the original Nomad knows that they don’t take reservations but the wait is worth it. Head over there before the rest of Philadelphia catches on.
