“We are thrilled to be able to bring back Manayunk On Ice to the Greater Philadelphia region for the second consecutive year,” said Jane Lipton, Executive Director of Manayunk Development Corporation. “Manayunk On Ice is one of the only events in the Philadelphia area that offers folks a unique opportunity to escape bouts of cabin fever during the month of February. This winter festival is a fun and free family outing that gives visitors the chance to get outdoors and watch many of the world’s finest ice sculptors create stunning works of frozen artistry from blocks of ice. Hosted by the businesses along historic Main Street, visitors will be welcomed by plenty of restaurants and shops to help chase away the chill. Our inaugural event attracted more than 20,000 visitors over three days and we expect even bigger crowds this year.”

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11th:  The Fire and Ice Bonfire Ceremony will feature a 25 foot flaming ice sculpture melting down over specators at the Venice Island parking lot located at Main and Carson Streets, as well as the Manayunk tow path or Canal View Park on Main Street. This amazing bonfire melt will be so big that passer’s-by will be able to see it a glow from as far as the Schuylkill Expressway.

During the Fire and Ice Ceremony guests will enjoy music, samples of food from local participating restaurants, fire and ice inspired fashions from local participating boutiques, and samples of mixed spirits artfully prepared by the fine bartenders of some of Manayunk’s favorite watering holes who will be competing in the Icy Spirit’s Contest. Once you have your fill of food and beverage samples you can cast your vote on your favorites and a Fire and Ice King/Queen will be crowned.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 11th: Beginning at 11:00 am on Saturday a dozen NICA ice sculptors can be found up and down Main Street, carving beautiful icy masterpieces before your eyes. All sculptors will embrace this year’s theme of passion, in spirit of the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday. Ice sculptors will be carving from 11am to 3pm, so there’s plenty of time to see them all!

Then at 5:00pm Master Ice Sculptor, Peter Slavin will take the stage with a theatrical, Manayunk inspired ice carving exhibition titled “Fear No Ice”.
