Nate Miller & Darren Dalton

It can happen to anyone of us, at any time…

Homelessness isn’t a problem that targets only the less fortunate, the mentally ill, the lazy unmotivated populous. It affects all cultures in all areas of the globe, and it is estimated that an approximate 4000 people are homeless on any given day in Philadelphia (Project H.O.M.E.).  Philadelphia is one of few cities across the country with an organization that supports a Street Paper, that provides a means of employment to those in need of jobs and shelter. One Step Away, Philadelphia’s first street paper and a project of local non-profit organization, Resources for Human Development, employs motivated homeless persons as vendors to sell their newspaper, written by the vendors themselves. Vendors can pick up copies of the newspaper at a variety of local shelters for 25 cents a copy, where they can then sell the papers on the streets of Philadelphia for $1.00, providing then with a daily income. Please support the One Step Away vendors next time you are offered one of these remarkable community papers.
