Earth Day is Sunday, April 22, 2012 and we encourage everyone to do something to make the world a brighter, greener place to live. With lots of local initiatives to participate in, your contribution (big or small) will make the world and the Philadelphia community a better and brighter place to live.

 

Earth Day Events

Franklin Institute: Celebrate and learn about our changing planet at the Franklin Institute, which brings you a special presentation on 4/22/12 at 7:00pm called Climate Change: It’s Impact…Our Action. This lively discussion and debate will teach attendees about the science behind climate change, as well as the range of innovative policy solutions related to building practices, water usage, food distribution and energy production and distribution. $10 per ticket ($8 for members).

The Academy of Natural Sciences: Join the Academy of Natural Sciences for their Earth Day Festival, where you can talk with the scientists of the Academy’s Patrick Center for Environmental Research; Check out the shocker boat, look into a microscope, and watch a demonstration of electroshocking; and meet with local groups committed to the environment.

National Liberty Museum: Celebrate Earth Week at the National Liberty Museum by enjoying a free guided tour and special Earth Week craft project with your price of Museum admission. Your tour will focus on international environmental heroes who have taken care of the earth, such as Wangari Maathai, Rachel Carson and Al Gore. The craft activity, creating flowers from recycled paper, will utilize the material collected from the Museum’s Shredder exhibit. Earth Week begins on Saturday, April 16 and continues through Saturday, April 23. Hours are 10am-5pm.

5K Run for Clean Air: Celebrate a greener earth with the 5K Run for Clean Air on April 21, 2012. Participants can register for a 5K run or 3K walk, starting at the Philadelphia Art Museum. Back at the finish line, host organization, the Clean Air Council, invites runners and onlookers to enjoy expositions, entertainment, food and fun provided by eco-friendly partners and sponsors.
