Julie Dorenbos

We recently had the opportunity to speak with Julie Dorenbos, owner of Skin Palette and wife of Philadelphia Eagles player, Jon Dorenbos, about her involvement with DWTPS.

PH: How did you become involved with DWTPS and Sickle Cell Awareness?

JD: I was approached about participating and I am always happy to help any charity in Philadelphia and give a helping hand. However, the more I learned about Sickle Cell Disease and the astonishing number of those affected by it, I knew I wanted to help and I am really happy to be a part of this event.

PH: Is this the first time you’ve participated in an event like this?

JD: Yes. I have participated in charity work before, but I am not a dancer and have never done something like this. My good friend, Kendra Wilkerson of Dancing With the Star’s (the ABC TV series) has been great.

Julie continued to share with us that close friend and Dancing with the Stars alumni, Kendra Wilkerson, has been giving her pointers and advice on mastering the rumba, her dance for the competition on April 22nd. Julie has a slight advantage above other the contestants, as she attended an actual taping of the hit ABC TV series Dancing With The Stars to see Kendra compete in 2011.

PH: Who will be your dance partner and does your husband help you practice your moves?

JD: Nik from Society Hill Dance Academy is my dance partner and instructor. I had no idea what the Rumba was, but Nick explained it as the dance of love. The Rumba tells a story, everything you do; the way you move, your facial expressions, everything tells this story.

(in regards to husband, Jon) I am trying to teach him how to do the Rumba, but he’s not as good as Nick. He is supportive though and tries to help.

PH: What excites you most about the performance? Is it the costumes, choreography, music?

JD: I grew up in this area and have a lot of family and friends here that are excited to see me perform. A lot of times charity work is behind the scenes and it’s really fun to be able to share this with them; For them to see what I’ve been working on. It’s nice to come together and celebrate.
