The festive holiday of Hanukkah begins on December 8th this year, and continues for 8 nights until December 16th. Philadelphia has a variety of great Hanukkah Happenings in the city. If we’ve left any out please be sure to let us know!

Rittenhouse Square Menorah Lighting

When: December 9th at 5:30 pm

As dusk falls on the city, one of Philadelphia’s largest menorahs will be lit in Rittenhouse Square. Come out for the free festive event and celebrate the second light in the festival of lights, then explore Rittenhouse Square’s many fantastic restaurants and shops.

 

“March of Lights” Parade

When: December 8th at 7:00 pm

Sponsored by Lubavitch of Greater Philadelphia as “the world’ largest car menorah parade”; the Chanukah “March of Lights” Celebration will begin at Eakins Oval, inbound on the Ben Franklin Parkway to Logan Circle, around the south side of Logan circle, continuing Eastbound on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway to Arch Street, Eastbound on Arch Street to 15th Street, Southbound on 15th Street to S. Penn Square, Eastbound on S. Penn Square to Juniper Street, Northbound on Juniper Street to Market Street, Eastbound on Market Street to the 500 Block of Market Street. The participants will conduct a ceremony on the lawn in front of the Independence Visitors Center on Market Street.

 

Sharing Our Lights Together

When: December 9th at 5:30 pm

With a shuk complete with vendors, holiday foods and gift ideas for the last-minute shoppers. Following the candle-lighting ceremony, Israeli musician Mika Karni will take the stage with her band. There will also be post-concert Israeli music and dancing with Rak-Dan. The event is co-sponsored by PhillyIsrael, Rodeph Shalom, Consulate of Israel in Philadelphia, The Israeli House, Temple Students for Israel. Collaborative, Renaissance, Moishe House Phila­delphia and Reform Jewish Community. This event is held at Rodeph Shalom.

 

Festival of Lights with Art After 5

When: December 14th at 5:30 pm

Join friends at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Festival of Lights, featuring the drums and big brass sounds of the West Philadelphia Orchestra. Singing and dancing are encouraged. This event is free with admission.

 

10th Annual Latkepalooza

When: December 9th at 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

One of Philadelphia’s hottest foodie events: Latkepalooza! Philly’s top restaurants will whip up their creative spin on the latke, from sweet potato to spinach & feta and everything in between! Plus music by the West Philly Orchestra and a performance for the kids by MUSIC MONKEY JUNGLE AT 2:45

Cost: $16 advance, $5 kids under 10,

$18 at the door (based on ticket availability),

$7 kids under 10
