If you missed the annual tree lighting at Rittenhouse Square, or loved it so much you want to see another dazzling display of lights then you’re in luck! Check out this year’s tree lighting ceremony at Philadelphia’s own Christmas Village located in Love Park on December 7th with special guest Mayor Michael Nutter.

Christmas Markets are an old German holiday tradition that date back to the 15th century. In classic market style, the market is located outside of City Hall, in Love Park.  Love Park is located on the west side of City Hall, and is completely outdoors.

The Christmas Village is open from November 24 through December 24, 2011 every Sunday through Thursday from 11am to 7pm and every Friday and Saturday from 11am to 8pm. Remember admission to the Village is always FREE! This year an astounding 350,000 visitors are expected to marvel the Village, so leave yourself plenty of time to fully experience all Christmas Village has to offer.

You don’t want to miss experiencing the unique sights and smells of this outdoor holiday marketplace, with over 80 booths, outdoor tents, stages, international foods, and more! Over 50 amazing vendors have gifts and goods on display awaiting your arrival, providing distinctive and memorable holiday gifts for everyone on your list. You will see a variety of European influenced gifts, foods and sweets, as well as, high quality arts and crafts, ornaments and jewelry pieces. While you navigate the market your senses will be treated to the delicious smells of fresh baked waffles, gingerbread, mulled wine and other scents to put you in that perfect Christmas mood.

As if there weren’t enough magic already, some additional Village highlights include:

-Sunday Family Days with face painting, balloon artistry, and Santa’s house

“Play on, Philly” Day:December 3rd

December 3rd is Charity Day at Christmas village, benefiting PLAY ON, PHILLY an out-of-school music program for kids. The Play On, Philly brass band will perform at 1:00, 2:30 and 4:00pm. Everyone who makes a charitable donation will receive a heart shaped helium balloon.

German American Day: December 10th

For the ultimate German Christmas experience be in attendance on Saturday, December 10th for German American Day. The Village will welcome an authentic German choir and German Schuhplattler dancers decked out in their lederhosen and dirndels. They’ll be serving up bratwurst, sauerkraut, frosted nuts, and gluehwein (mulled wine)- all flavors of Deustchland. A true German experience bursting with culture and tradition.
