Almost 28,000 pets come through the doors of the Animal Care and Control Team’s (ACCT) Philly offices every single year. That’s a lot of pets to care and find homes for, but your entry into the Duck Dash can help them save these pets lives.

The Duck Dash, which will take place on August 22 at 1:00 p.m., supports ACCT’s lifesaving programs for pets, including their adoption center that is open 365 days a year. In 2014 ACCT broke records by finding adoptive homes for more than 8,200 pets, and with your help they can continue the trend.

What exactly happens at a Duck Dash?! That’s a good question.

At the Duck Dash up to 5,000 ducks (that’s rubber ducks) will invade Vogt Recreation Center and Pool. Each duck taking a dip and dashing through the pool will be individually numbered. At the end of their swim, winning ducks will be drawn from the flock for a chance to win $50,000 and other great prizes including $2,000 and an iPad. If your duck is drawn you WIN! Oh and you don’t have to be present at the event to win.

All you have to do to participate is adopt a duck. The ducks start at $5 and there are discounts for adopting multiple ducks. You can adopt one by clicking here.

Everyone who adopts a duck, whether online, in the mail, at a Duck Dash booth, or through a sponsoring business is entered into what ACCT calls an E-Quack – a database that stores all of the information. Next to your name in the E-Quack is the number of ducks you have adopted. The tag range is entered into E-Quack and all the numbers are shuffled up. Then, E-Quack automatically assigns the number of ducks you have adopted next to Tag Numbers. Thus, if you adopted 5 ducks, your name will be placed next to 5 different Tag Numbers.

All proceeds from the Duck Dash will go to benefit ACCT Philly.
