St. Patricks DayAh March, the month that comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.  This month can be an unpredictable end to winter and start of spring but one thing is for sure, it’s the month in which Philadelphians will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in style!  Whether you are Irish or not it’s pretty much a guarantee that if you want to you can have a ton of fun celebrating this holiday.  Here is what is going on in Philly for St. Patty’s Day 2016.

Parade

The Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade was founded in 1771 making it the 2nd oldest Parade of any kind in the USA. Grab the family to celebrate together and this year don’t forget to set your clocks to spring ahead so you don’t miss any of the action.  If being outside in the elements doesn’t appeal to you this is the first year you can watch the parade on TV!  It will air live on Fox 29 and be re-aired on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, 2016 on Fox 29 at noon.

When: Sunday March 13, 2016 (Daylight Savings), Noon-3pm
Where: Starting point JFK Blvd between 16th and 17th Streets heading towards the Art Museum

Bar Crawls

Most Philadelphians prefer not to remember St. Patrick’s Day and spend it and the weekends surrounding it enjoying the many libations our city has to offer.  One of the best ways to do this is to visit not one but many bars around the city.

Erin Express

The official Erin Express is a St. Patty’s Day tradition in Philadelphia that spans over 30 years.  Over 10 busses will be looping around 15 bars throughout the city giving you a fuzzy tour filled with St. Patrick’s Day themed fun.  The busses are free, just show up at a participating bar and when you are ready to move on hop on a bus that will rotate about every 15 minutes. Don’t forget to wear your green and cash is helpful for quick service at the bars!

When: March 5th and 12th 2016 from 9am-6pm

Northeast Philly Shamrock Shuttle

It goes without saying that if you are planning to participate in a bar crawl this St. Patrick’s Day, it’s best to stay as close to home as possible.  If home for you is Philadelphia’s Northeast section the Erin Express has you covered.  10 busses will make a continuous loop around 10 NE Philly bars. Wristbands are $6 and include bus transportation and great drink specials.  Don’t forget your ID!

Leprechaun Lap

Barcrawls.com is back in Philly for the annual Leprechaun Lap with 14 participating bars.  Tickets start at $10 and include exclusive drink specials and cover-free admission at participating locations.

Running of the Micks

From the same people who bring us Running of the Santas comes Running of the Micks.  With participating bars throughout Northern Liberties, Center City, and South Philly.  Tickets start at $20 and include entrance to all of the bars on the bus crawl, unlimited bus transportation, featured beer and drink specials.
